MOVING AT THE SPEED OF BUSINESS: Smiling Man and I were expecting delivery of the Big Book of UF on Monday or, at the latest, today. They're coming from the printer in Michigan, and headed for our merchandiser in Washington state.
Several factors slowed delivery down, but the big one was the snow. Right now the trailer carrying the books is en route to Portland, OR, and won't arrive there until tomorrow night. This means that the books likely won't get to Redmond, WA until Thursday or possibly even Friday. And we still need part of a day for me to sign hundreds of books.
What that means is that it'll be really unlikely that the books will be sent out in time to make it under UFies' Christmas trees by Dec 25. And that makes both Smiling Man and myself very sad. :-(
We really did try, and we pulled out all of the stops to get the books to you in time for the yearly gift unwrapping; it looks like we came close, but ultimately missed.
Some number of those folks who bought books bought them as gifts, and I'm sure they'd like to have something under the tree indicating that the book is indeed en route. Thus, I have made for them a Promissory Note of sorts [PDF, 3.0MB] that can either be sent in email or can be printed and slid into an envelope.
We'll soon be sending out an email blast reiterating much of the above to everyone who bought a book. Also, once the books are bundled up and shipped to each of you, you should get a tracking number in e-mail from our merchandiser so you can watch your copy of the Ten Years of UserFriendly goodness crawl its way across our globe.
We're sorry, folks. We did try really hard. :-(
