[Illiad] END OF AN ERA, BEGINNING OF A LEGACYDate:Sun Feb 13 10:05:21 2000
I'm sure by now most people have heard that Charles 'Sparky' Schulz passed away on Saturday, February 12, on the eve of the last Peanuts strip to be published. Details are available here.

I received the news of Schulz's passing with mixed emotions: a little bit of relief now that Mr. Schulz is no longer suffering from his cancer, a great deal of sadness now that a bright light has gone out in this world, and a sense of pride to see the outstanding legacy that he has left behind, a gentle icon of our culture that has drawn so many people together to watch the antics of a group of inquisitive children, a navigationally-challenged bird and a beagle with a heart as big as his nose.

There isn't much else to say about Schulz's passing, other than my wishes for his family to find peace soon.

You were a good man, Charles.

[Illiad] RETURNED, REVIVED, REDUXDate:Sun Feb 13 09:59:51 2000
I'm finally back from my week off in the wilds of British Columbia (although it wasn't all that 'wild' per se...I had hot and cold running water). I have several hundred e-mails to get through, so please bear with me; it might be a couple weeks before I'm able to respond if you wrote me.

My thanks to everyone who held down the fort while I was away. I actually had the time to find a few of the marbles that I lost a while back.

[WebDiva D] GEEKFINDER SUCCESS STORYDate:Wed Feb 9 21:25:27 2000
Within days of my posting a request for a Geekfinder success story, Mike L sent me this:

I went to take a look at Geekfinder at the end of December, not because I wanted a job but because I wanted to check out your site. I decided to enter my dream job (Linux/Network administrator) and much to my surprise I got a hit back. Well, I went through with sending in my resume and interviewing and now I start there on January 31st.

The company is a small internet startup (some ISP stuff, web content and managing) so not only am I a huge fan of UF, but you also found me a job doing what I want AND my new job is for a little company just like Columbia Internet! My only request is that you create and sell posters of Pitr's "God. Root. What is difference?" strip so I can hang it on the wall of my new office. ;)

Seriously, thanks for a great comic that I read every day and thanks so much for helping me find a great new job!

Take care,
Mike

I followed up with Mike the other day, this is our mini-interview.

If you have a Geekfinder success story, we'd love to hear about it! Email WebDiva with details if you are a geek or an employer who has found a "match" through Geekfinder. And if you haven't checked out Geekfinder yet...what are you waiting for?!

[Kethryvis] UPDATE ON SOFTWARE RIGHTSDate:Mon Feb 7 11:24:57 2000
Scott wrote to me and pointed me in the direction of this site. Its a good meeting place of sorts for people wanting to stop the passage of the UCITA, the bill I posted about yesterday. Volunteers for the "Stop the UCITA" movement are needed very urgently in Virginia and Maryland with California (my home state) and Oklahoma coming shortly. Step up and show your support!
