Marion Zimmer Bradley had a massive heart attack yesterday and (last I heard) is unconscious in Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, Ca. Diana Paxson is asking that energy be sent to her higher self to be used as the need be. For those who don't know, Marion is the author of MISTS OF AVALON and the DARKOVER series and many other novels. I read MISTS and loved it. My prayers go out to Ms. Bradley.

My thanks to everyone for their congratulations and fantastic support on the success of the first User Friendly book! We've been on Amazon's Top 10 Bestsellers for a couple days now, and even when we drop below that I'll still be mighty proud that we reached that lofty height. I also have to thank the O'Reilly crew and the work they did, and a special nod goes to Tim "The Man" O'Reilly himself, who took the time to talk to me at length during the BC TIA dinner last night. Tim's a fascinating fellow and an entertaining speaker, so if you ever have the opportunity to listen to him at a keynote, I highly recommend you don't miss out.

| User Friendly the book is available for pre-order from Amazon and Chapters. Amazon tells us the book is already ranked at 717, despite the fact that it's only in pre-order stage and no publicity has been released until now! I bet they didn't anticipate how good UFies would be at hunting the book down...but I know that where there's a geek, there's numerous ways plus patches. It seems like this is the time of year for get-togethers. I just got this in email: Wanted: Candadian UFies to show Aussie UFies a good time on the week of the 3rd of October. My husband and I are travelling to Vancouver, and as it is a business trip for him, I will be alone for most of the days. If there are any UFies who want to meet up with some Aussie UFies, please email me at cclb@students.latrobe.edu.au I tell ya, the Strines are invading Canada, a few people at a time. Pretty soon we're all going to be saying "arvo" and "billabong" and "I was a vegemite kid." (Wait a minute...I was a vegemite kid...)

Here be another Frequently Asked Question (and yes, I'm keeping track of them all so that an update top the FAQ can be done sometime Real Soon Now): You don't need an account on the Friendly Forum to participate. Just go ahead and start posting -- accounts are only required for private areas, and since none exist in the Forum...well, you get the idea.
