September is upon us!
THERE ONCE WAS A GEEK FROM NANTUCKET: Here's the good news! Over a hundred and forty limericks were submitted, many of which were brilliant! And the bad news: over half were disqualified for not adhering to limerick structure. That's a real shame, because some of them were pretty good.
In any case, the two runners-up are ag_wyvern and Mark Woodman, who each win a print of their choice from the archives. Their submissions:
ag_wyvern:
There once was an E-vil named Hastur,
Who planned to become the world's master,
But of life he was shorn,
For when D. P. met corn,
Erwin had Artur show him his blaster!
Mark Woodman:
Stef without doubt needs a clue,
His brain's no mainframe from Big Blue,
But his biggest mistake,
Besides playing Quake,
Was sending chain mail to Cthulhu!
The winner of the UF Limerick contest is James Turner who wins a UF book of his choice and a print from the archives!
James Turner:
Columbia techies won't differ,
The job market is getting stiffer,
Greg's stuck every night,
Making Slushies taste right,
And Dust Puppy temps as a Swiffer!
Congrats to all three winners, and please drop me a line with your snail mail addie and the date of the print you'd like! Also, James gets to pick any UF book currenly published. My thanks to all entrants, and I'd like to remark on the overall high-level of quality in the submissions. It made choosing difficult! (until I found my dart board...)
GOING DOWN TO SEATTLE, GONNA HAVE MYSELF A TIME: Just a reminder that I'll be heading down to the Greater Seattle Linux Users Group this Saturday, September 13th 2003 to do a talk on content distribution and all the skullduggery that surrounds it. Come on by and say hello! The more the merrier!

Holy moly that was fast! I submitted the final manuscript to ORA just a couple of months ago, and ba-bing! The book is out!
Book Five (Book Four if you only count the O'Reilly publications of the cartoons), Even Grues Get Full is now shipping from O'Reilly and your usual dead-tree haunts! This time the foreword is written by none other than movie/tv celeb Wil Wheaton (he of Wesley-Crusher-TNG-fame. The lucky knob got to snog Ashley Judd in an episode of TNG.) Thanks, Wil! And fear not, the seething envy of geeks everywhere who, ahem, appreciate Ms. Judd will fade eventually!
Thank you to everyone who's bought UF books in the past, and I hope you'll consider picking up this one as an addition to your collection!
