[Illiad] BACKFEED FOR AUGUST 2004 V1.1Date:Sun Aug 8 22:57:02 2004

A many-item update this time around!

SUMMER SPONSORSHIP ENDS AUGUST 10: My thanks in advance to everyone who has signed up for a sponsorship this summer! A couple of things of note: if you paid via PayPal and your account hasn't been updated after 24 or so hours, drop me a line directly with your account name and I'll look into fixing things up for you manually. On occasion PayPal neglects to pass the right info to our transaction server and things don't automagically update as they should. Also, the spiffs should be going out in a couple of weeks or so, soon after I get back from Australia! Thank you again everyone!

GEEKCENTRIC CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGISTS: We have two very talented docs giving of their time freely to UFies everywhere. Check out their first column, which will likely run weekly on Aspectus. If you'd like some smart, geek-friendly advice, these are the folks to turn to. I, of course, am beyond even their help.

J2ME EXPERT REQUIRED: I have a development question regarding J2ME that I need answered. Any technologists out there skilled in this environment? Your help will be rewarded! Drop me a line at the usual address.

UFIES NEVER STOP DOING GOOD THINGS: UFie Mortaine is running the Portland Marathon on October 3rd this year, and her goal isn't just to finish the race, but to raise $3000 to help fund research for a cure to that horrid disease known as leukemia. Please spread the word, and if you can, help her admirable efforts either with moral or monetary support. As an aside, not long ago Mortaine hadn't run more than a few miles at a time. Now she's pushing for the whole 26.2 miles!

SOME HONOURS I WISH I NEVER HAD: I felt no small degree of honour being asked to write something regarding The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy for 42words.com, a tribute site dedicated to the late, great Douglas Adams. The pieces are displayed randomly on the site, so a few refreshes should bring mine up if it doesn't when you first hit the page -- and you may have to set the display order to "Random" at the bottom.

The truth is, I'd trade this distinctive honour in just to have him back with us. :(
