[Illiad] TINY UFIES REDUX: HALLOWE'ENDate:Sun Oct 28 21:41:22 2001

Earlier this year I featured some photos of a wee fella who was remarkably well-dressed at ALS in October 2000. I'm repeating this because, well, it cracked me up and it still does. :)

The photos were taken at the Atlanta Linux Showcase and it'd be an understatement to say that the young fella in these photos [1, 2, 3] was an attraction at the show. His name is Phillip, and he's a Geek in Training, under the kind and steady hand of his proud parents, Jim and Ginny Mauldin-Kinney.

The story behind this, in Ginny's words: We've been UFies since the cartoon's inception. When discussing how to dress our two-year old, Phillip, for Halloween, it was decided that he should be a "Dust Puppy". He was just the right size, SHORT! Plus, we thought it would be very funny and would test the intellectual capacity of our neighbors! Surprisingly, four out of ten surveyed adults knew EXACTLY what he was!

Being the creative mom, I ran to my local craft store. I bought a black sweatshirt, some fancy black pipe cleaners, white fun foam, a black baseball cap, a black fabric marker and went to work! Four hours and several hot glue blisters later, we had a "Dust Puppy" costume!

Update from Ginny: Philip is now three years old and still fits in the costume. Guys, if there was ever a time to be a hero and help out your neighbour with a li'l one, Hallowe'en is it. Dress your charge up as a DP like Phillip in the photos and the women will surround you. Play your cards right, be polite and honest, and you may get a chance to make one of your own. :)

[Illiad] THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST: STRETCHING OUT SOME TENDRILSDate:Mon Oct 22 12:01:26 2001

On a downturn-in-the-economy related note, does anyone out there who works in or near Seattle (or even better, north of Seattle, say in the Mt. Vernon or Bellingham area) know of upcoming opportunities in PC tech and network support, preferably in an educational, research or government facility?

I'm trying to earn more points in heaven by helping a friend. Please email me directly. My thanks to all respondants in advance.
