| MIR REALLY IS BUY-ABLE | Date:Sun Sep 12 18:11:26 1999 |
| This in from Joni Hi! Given your recent discussion of Mir, I thought you might be intrigued/amused by this: http://www.4link.net/~pluto/copy%20of%20spacehd.html Yes, you can *buy* a working copy of Mir (it's #8) and/or a working russian space shuttle. We've been envisioning it as an anvil delivery service for spamming ISPs. Hmmm. I can't say I can think of a better purpose. Thanks Joni!

| A MICROSOFT EMPLOYEE SPEAKS | Date:Sun Sep 12 18:07:03 1999 |
| Here's part of a letter I got from a Microsoft employee. No names, of course: I doubt you'll ever see a product from MS that compares in overall quality to linux, but the people behind those products are not all as evil as the products themselves. I'm just glad I can still laugh at things like this Sunday's NT Card strip. As long as I can still laugh heartily when MS is the butt of the joke, I still have some reason to live. I have a question I've been wondering about. How many requests a day do you get from the microsoft.com? Am I one of a very few Ufies in MS? Or are there thousands and thousands? If you can get that statistic easily, I'd appreciate it, but it's not important. If you do try to find out, all he requests will come from the firewalls, so don't count IPs. Thank you for continually reminding me that there is a big world out there that isn't so enamoured with billg, and for keeping my sense of humor well-rounded. I've always felt that many Microsoft employees are very cool about the whole parody thing with regard to the company they work for. This is one examples that proves it. And to answer the writer's question, two of Microsoft's internal servers always rank in the top ten for userfriendly.org http requests. Sweet. :)

The ripe and spherical Arcterex found this theme at themes.org; it's really quite inspired. And fuzzy. :) Thanks Arc!

| [WebDiva D] Sept 10th cartoon restored...breathe easy now, ohhhhmmmm | Date:Fri Sep 10 09:40:36 1999 |
Oh that wacky Illiad! I could lie and tell y'all it was our own private little 9-9-1999 thing...but nah. Thanks to all the diligent/vigilant UFies who emailed me with the Distress Report. My illustrious leader beat you to it though and emailed me the nanosecond after he realized the smeg-up.

| UPDATE PROBLEMO | Date:Fri Sep 10 00:52:26 1999 |
| Sorry for the missing cartoon for September 10, folks. I missed a deadline and the engine didn't have anything to pull. It's in the database though, so it should be fixed sometime in the morning, probably by 1000 PDT. Mea culpa, and all that. I promise never to slack like that again. Well, I'll try. :)

| [IAMBE]UFIES POSE AS GEORGIA PEACHES | Date:Wed Sep 8 22:17:04 1999 |
| I would like to take a moment to thank the over 500 incredibly enthusiastic and skilled UFies who applied to work with Team Dust Puppy at the User Friendly booth in Atlanta for the 3rd Annual Atlanta Linux Showcase. It is with great pride that I associate myself with people dedicated to work their butts off for a sucessful show. As 500 would have near filled the wing of the show, never mind our tiny booth, a handful were only able to be chosen. Team Dust Puppy will consist of UFie Thyla, UFie Gruuk, UFie Amberle and UFie Sad|st with myself at the helm of show activities for User Friendly@ALS. On behalf of the Team DP, I would like to welcome you all to join us at ALS for a chat and a bit of User Friendly style cheer. Cya at the Showcase!

| [IAMBE]UFIES IN TURMOIL - TUCKEROOS TRADGEDY '99 | Date:Wed Sep 8 22:07:27 1999 |
It is with head hanging low and saddness in my heart that I report that our very own phat pipe for Tim Tams and other assorted Australian Geek-powering delights is going offline. Tuckeroos has reported that it is shutting down. I have written as much as I know about this seemingly cyberama of near epic proportions in todays Intimate & Interactive and will interview Tuckeroos personnel tonight to try and find out why. Keep your eyes posted here for details as I uncover them.

This concentration has its origin in Portugal, but we want people from all over the world to participate. It'll be this friday @ 21h00m GMT Please, pass this in the news, I've e-mailed CNN, Reuters, Associated Press, etc, etc, etc... the site has an average of 3 clicks a minute, but we need more, we need the whole world. | About three weeks ago I posted that Peer 2 Peer Personals: Networking for Geeks was nearing 1,000 users. Today I am pleased to report, heck I am turning over backflips to report that P2P now enjoys 1,142. P2P user 1142 was added to the system at 3:06pm with very much pomp and not too much circumstance. I was waiting of course for the 42 to show up before sharing the excitement with you (I am not all that silly not to notice such an obvious milestone). I am also pleased to report that we have had a veritable ton of women join the system as well as new people from all over the planet. Make a point of checking Peer 2 Peer out!

| ULTIMATE COMPLIMENT | Date:Tue Sep 7 23:53:39 1999 |
| I get a pile of wonderful letters everyday from people in the hi-tech community, but when I get one from a child, or someone who doesn't use computers for a living, it's extra special. here's an example from Lynn: I >love< this strip and I'm not a computer geek. I'm one of those people who tortures the tech-support folks with aggravating problems... you have given me new insight and I am now >much< more polite & respectful of the techie-at-large. I've recommended this site to several tech depts (at NEC, Microtek, etc.) The guys usually check it out while researching my problem, & so far, no complaints. Keep up the great work. (I am a Microsoft-hater, which makes your site a good place to go for relief.) See, it's not just Linux people who have a drum to beat against the big M, and the strip even teaches the non-techies about Tech Support Pain. Cool, huh? :)

| THE HAREM IS OPEN FOR BIZ | Date:Tue Sep 7 04:12:23 1999 |
I still can't get over this. Godmoma has gone and done a grand job on putting together something called Illiad's Harem. Heh. I've never had a harem before. It's kinda scary and flattering at the same time. :) Thanks Godmoma!

Brendan sent in this mighty cool link to a scary possibility: Microsoft Linux. A careful look at the testimonials on the sidebar reveals a quote from our ever-suffering Greg in Tech Support. Way to go, man. You made it into the media. :)

| [IAMBE] OF MASCOTS AND MAYHEM | Date:Mon Sep 6 21:11:55 1999 |
| IRC Channel Userfriendly's own WILDONE has taken his creative genius again to task to come up with a potential mascot for any LINUX that the Great Evil (No, not General Electric) may steal/violate/pillage/bend the GPL from respectable distros and market to the sheeple. Go take a gander and a giggle at: Green Hat. Bandwidth is a rumour.
