[Illiad] THE CONTINUING SAGA: I.T. DEPARTMENT WOES ANIMATION #3Date:Sun Dec 2 18:13:43 2001
Given the pressures brought on by the holiday season, this animation (brought to you once again by the fine folks at Seattle Lab!) in a sideways manner addresses something much overlooked by non-techies everywhere: what happens when a technologist finally snaps. What they also don't understand is the degree of committment we're all capable of achieving. Rather than explain that last bit, you can figure it out yourself by clicking on the image. To top it all off, Seattle Lab is offering a chance for you to enter a draw to win $500 and $1000 cash -- which is exactly what an overwhelming number of you voted for as a prize in their last survey. As always, we appreciate your viewing and participation!

[Illiad] UF DOT ORG LOOKING FOR A NEW PORTDate:Fri Nov 30 10:58:26 2001

What could be inferred from the title is that we're looking for a new home for UF's hosting. We're getting a great rate where we are now, but when you start approaching one terabyte of traffic every month, it's still a terrifying bill to pay. So, who better to ask than the audience? I'd eat the Smiling Man's glasses if there aren't at least several hundred UFies who work at hosting companies.

So what are we looking for? Essentially, a hosting partner. Someone who can give us a nice big fat pipe to the net.at.large, in exchange for a mutually-agreeable contract, and creative rates. Ideally the hosting company will be in or near Vancouver, British Columbia, but it's not a deal breaker if it's not. If you think your company would be interested in doing something with us, by all means please get in touch with our very own Smiling Man with some details and we'll get the wheels rolling.

Thanks gang!

[Illiad] STATE OF MY BUNYANDate:Tue Nov 27 23:58:54 2001

(If you can think of another ailment that rhymes with either "union" or "onion," feel free to let me know.)

Thanksgiving in the US is over and so on to the Christmas Season we go. Or so the consumer industry would have us behave. I'm done my Christmas shopping since I buy only for the few closest people in my life, but many years have gone by where I've quite literally left it to the last two or three days. And what a panic that can be. When wielded with greed, Santa becomes a red-suited weapon of cheer.

But putting the cynic aside, I do approve of a season where people take the time to think about others. I also understand the excruciating difficulty in finding a gift that doesn't require selling yourself into indentured servitude to pay it off. My suggestions are obviously going to be the User Friendly Stocking and the Dust Puppy/Pitr Mug set over at our store. They're inexpensive, they're spiffy, and you'll be contributing to the cause. :) But let's carry this topic on in the comments. If you have an idea for an inexpensive but neat-o gift, or even better, something you can make, please share it with us.

A couple of other things in the pipe. I'm involved with two companies right now, FastStorm and their sure-to-be mind-crack UltimateGalaxy online multiplayer game, and Komix World, the UK's independent comics and comic art site (and distributor of some very spiff original art by greats such as Jay Hurst. I'm also working on a new (NOT daily!) strip that'll soon be featured on the site. It's...different is all I'll say.

Lastly, we're coming very close to offering an early-in-the-door special something that we've discussed a great deal here. A way to turn off the ads and have the cartoon mailed to you. Details coming very soon: might even make a great Christmas present for someone. ;)

More in a bit. Thanks for reading!
