DONT MESS WITH EVILDate:Sat Aug 21 23:02:39 1999
LordScire sent in this cool screenshot of a Half Life: Counterstrike game. Seems like someone has made a spiffy stencil to spray on floors and walls, and a rather evil one at that. Ya gotta love it. :)

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CROSS STEVE JOBS WITH GEORGE LUCAS?Date:Fri Aug 20 22:43:12 1999
Ruairi McFarlane sent in this really hilarious link to something a co-worker of his did. I damn near peed myself. Don't do anything that might interfere with your breathing before your check this out. :)

WHAT INCREDIBLE IRONYDate:Fri Aug 20 22:37:10 1999
This in from Rob, and others have also expressed the same:

...What struck me funny today was as I was getting my daily dose of laughter, a banner caught my eye at the top. It was an advert from Microsoft for MSN messenger. I think I'll be laughing for the next week that they are paying you (indirectly through the advertising agency, but still paying you) to advertise for them.

Indeed. I certainly thought it was funny. :-)

[Iambe] Peer2Peer News!!!Date:Thu Aug 19 00:45:45 1999
Wow! A lot of hard work, some coaching (blood, sweat and tears) in between and Peer2Peer, Networking For Geeks is a few submissions shy of the 1000 mark. Not too bad for a personals site run by a couple of Geeks for the User Friendly Community. If you would like to know more, click above or click on the Dust Puppy on Heart gif at the bottom of Intimate & Interactive.

Thanks for all your support as we near this awesome milestone! UFies rock - so much so that we have over 20 damn fine success stories that we know about! If you are party to a love story off of P2P, or made a friend in our PenPal section, we want to hear about it!

RICHARD STALLMAN AT VANLUGDate:Thu Aug 19 00:03:29 1999
Written by Dave Michelson: On VanLUG's advice, CICSR has moved Richard Stallman's lecture concerning GNU/Linux and Free Software on Thu, 23 Sep 1999 (4:00 - 5:30 pm) to the Woodward IRC (Instructional Resource Centre), Lecture Hall 2. This room has a capacity of just under 500 people. Address: 2194 Health Sciences Mall, UBC.

VanLUG's task: Help to advertise the event and fill the lecture hall with interested members of the software development, computing, science, and engineering communities in Vancouver. Dr. Ward (Director of CICSR) has approved our plan to publicize the event through the NetWorks section of the Vancouver Sun.

Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising, however. Please let your friends and colleagues with an interest in Linux and UNIX know about this event. In accepting our advice, CICSR has taken a bit of a gamble. Now we need to follow through with a good turn out!

Merlin has put up a page of photos from Linux World Expo. He's placed the choice ones on the page, but has over 100 others on another page.

TIM IN A NUTSHELL IN VANCOUVERDate:Tue Aug 17 23:47:40 1999
The Vancouver Linux Users Group will host a special breakfast presentation by Tim O'Reilly (founder/owner, O'Reilly & Associates) on Thu, Sep 23, 1999. The exact time and place will be announced in a few weeks.

Tim will be giving a dinner talk at the BC TIA AGM on the previous evening. Dick Hardt of ActiveState approached Tim on our behalf regarding the possibility of a VanLUG breakfast meeting before Tim returns to California. The answer was yes, so be prepared for a busy week!

I SWEAR IT WAS HIS FAULTDate:Tue Aug 17 23:41:45 1999
The Sunday Cartoon that several people recognized as very similar to one from an old and popular Unix manual was created on the suggestion of a UFie. I had no previous knowledge of the one in the Unix manual, although I suppose I should read every single cartoon strip in existance so I never duplicate anything or be accused of ripping off someone else's work. Nah. :-)

Anyway, that's the scoop, so you can breathe again. I never plagerize knowingly.
