| I just got back to Vancouver from LISA2000 held in New Orleans. The speech was a pleasure to do, and the show was a fun and informative one. The audience at the speech was both indulgent and friendly, which is the best kind of audience anyone could hope for. My hat is off to the fine folks who work ever so hard to get a show like this together, and I'd like to offer special thanks to Remy Evard and Phil Scarr (co-chairs of LISA) as well as Ellie Young (the Executive Director of USENIX) for inviting me out and for being so kind. I felt the show was a great success and here's to another 14 successful years for LISA! Side note: I got the chance to cruise the French Quarter while I was there, and now I'm positively hooked on Creole and Cajun food. I have this intense craving for red beans and rice... Also, one thousand thank-yous to everyone who's written in to me with a birthday greeting or card! One more rotation around the Sun, one more year closer to the day when I can be a crotchety old buzzard who draws rude pictures about people. And gets away with it. :)

| Guess who has a birthday today??? Our favourite cartoonist, Illiad, turns another year older today! He's currently in transit home from LISA in New Orleans... which means I could be *really* mean in this message... but instead I'll be nice as my birthday present to the skank-boi. :) Why not send him some birthday greetings? Even better, send him a postcard from our handy dandy Postcard Server!

By popular demand (those Friendly Forumers & TalkBackers can be a pretty convincing bunch), a recipe exchange is being arranged for all UFies wishing to get together and swap their favourite seasonal recipes. The exchange page Food Among Friends opens next Monday. I am currently gathering cookie, cake, appy, candy and main dish recipes to add to the page. Everyone is welcome to submit as many delish recipes as they like. If you can, include a bit of history behind your recipes. If you don't have a recipe to submit, ask your Mom :)

| I fell over laughing this morning when I read thru the informal survey that the readers started based on todays cartoon. "What's On Your Desk?" has had so many comments that I encourage folks who don't usually participate in the Comments System to have a read. I have also posted a tattletale on the UF Tech/Creative staffers, including moi, to assure our fans that desktop decor is alive and well within the office here.
