[Illiad] THE NEXT SHORT ANIMATION: VOILA!Date:Sun Jun 17 22:04:15 2001
Here it is, another userfriendly.org e-card, this time sponsored by Compaq. Anyone who's watched television in North America in the last few years will recognize what I based the script on. It was a panic to write, especially given that the character in the animation is based on a certain Chief Technical Officer that I know. I'm sure he'll kill me one day, but until then, enjoy!

[Yohimbe] UNIX REVIEW ON TOP 50 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT SAIR CERTIFICATIONDate:Fri Jun 15 14:30:45 2001
I've been watching the Unix/Linux training and certification market with interest lately, and it comes very timely that the Unix Review has a very good article on the SAIR Linux Cert course. As some of you know, Sid is certified by SAIR, so here is an article about preparing for one of the exams. I was pretty impressed. I like concise articles. This one is no nonsense at all. I'm going have to to get certified myself soon....

[Illiad] TOP SIX ANSWERS ON THE BOARDDate:Mon Jun 11 12:38:04 2001

...and the survey says "Go for it!"

This is, of course, regarding whether or not we run voluntary surveys on the site. There were a couple of "no" votes, but it appears (and I'm admittedly guessing here) that the writers were just concerned about being forced to complete a survey to get to the rest of the site.

No need to worry. That will not be allowed to happen. It just isn't our style.

When the surveys are deployed (and they're done randomly), they'll appear as a news item on the Static. If you don't want to complete it, that's fine -- just ignore it. But if you do want to participate, by all means do so, and we thank you in advance for it.

So, my thanks to everyone for their feedback. And when it comes to something like this, we'll always ask first. After all, it's only good manners.

[WebDiva D] GONE PHISHIN' WITH GEEKFINDERDate:Mon Jun 11 11:19:55 2001
Geekfinder successI really don't know what else I could add to this particular success story other than encouraging you to read the full thing!

After spending a few weeks frying my brain on the Phish tour, I camped along the California coast to unwind for about a month. Rainy season hit northern California, so I packed up my tent andðdrove southðto San Diego. Sunshine is nice! I found a new home, and it was time to find a new job.

I wasted a lot of effort (and time) digging through job listings and searching the "monstrous" job sites. My resume was tweaked over and over as I sent dozens of copies out each week. And very little happened...

Employers: "No certifications? Why should we hire you?"

Me: "Because I have work experience, and I'm really smart!"

Employers: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Me: "Thank you very little, jerks." Read full story...
Craig B.

Thanks for sending in your Success Story, Craig, and good luck! If you have a Geekfinder success you would like to share Send it to me!
