Accuracy in detail means, at a minimum, high center of gravity, skinny tires, weak brakes, and in some cases unmanageable or dangerous handling. IMO, the ur-example would be the 1930s mid-engine Auto Unions. Beautiful engineering, though.

Your idea of ejecting a driver during a crash only, even with a full-body air bag, is only slightly less hazardous than the 1930s open cockpit standards. Once a crash starts, the driver becomes a passenger. Trying to exit the car undergoing violent, unpredictable maneuvers is an excellent way to get seriously injured or killed. That's why racing organizations mandate crash survival cells, sealed fuel cells, 5-point racing harnesses and HANS (Head and Neck Support) devices.
