they run everything from pre-WWII speedsters to 1980s F1 and Indycars. The problem with the pre-ground effects formula cars of the 1950s-60s was that they averaged a driver fatality per about 5 races. The design philosophy of "make it pointy at both ends and as stiff as possible" meant that the only thing that could absorb energy in a crash was the driver.
