Ace looks from the suddenly appearing out of a puff of smoke Mister X, to the woman with the double pistols, to Block, back to X, the woman, & then Block once more.
It's too much like a three way tennis match with no nets, racquets, nor balls.
Sighing, shaking my head in an effort to clear it, I'll go back to scanning everything *else* for danger.
A quick nod of greeting to Lady S, a glance at Block to keep myself in tandem with his own positioning, & then resuming the scanning.
Does the spider corpse thingy offer any clues on the visual, audio, scent, or electronic ranges?
Does the blood trail seem fresher in one direction versus another, a clue that would indicate where the last victim may have crawled off to die?
Are there any smells coming up the hall towards us that might indicate something approaching, or down from whence Lady S came that we should be wary of, or from behind us that demands our immediate attention?
Can I hear anything from any of the three directions available to us, or has the banter & my heart pounding in my ears essentially rendered me momentarily deaf?
Can I detect anything on the communications ether, like someone taking an interest in us, commands to things to come after us, or anything being prepped to anticipate our arrival so it can gun us down once we get there?
Do I notice anything coming up behind us to make me want to turn around, or is the addition of the unfamiliar field of view a bit too odd to properly process?
There's so much running through my brain that it takes a second before something they said finally twigs in my consciousness.
Out loud & with an overly protective tone of voice, Ace demands of the group: "Hey! What about my ride? Are you dissin' my ride? 'Cuz if you are then y'all can just WALK home!"
