possible beginin to a book I've been thinking of by aprylmae 2008-10-03 07:17:06
writing for a long time now. Let my kno what you think.
--------------------------------------------------------------

It was the moment Franklin had been waiting for his entire life. He was about to set foot inside a newly discovered pyramid. His discovery. And from all indication so far, this was far older than any of the pyramid discovered before.
The heat of the sun beat on his brow like a hammer. He had always known Egypt would be hot. But the Wisconsin native never realized quite how hot, all those nights as a kid, hungrily reading through old issues of National Geographic, under the blankets in his cool Manitowoc home. It was enough to make him want to give up. Go home, and work for his father at the family's accounting firm. He had only agreed to study accounting in college to make his dad happy. After he'd agreed to it, they didn't even complain that he was still studying Egyptology. They figured it was a phase he would grow out of, or at most a hobby. His mother was the only one who really knew what he wanted to do with is life. And on the day he graduated from Stanford, she gave him a gift just from her. She gotten in touch with an old friend, who somehow knew Professor Craymore. They set up a meeting, and a few short weeks later, over the very loud protests of his father, he was one his way to Egypt.
But now, on his fifth trip out into the desert in the last 10 years, the third to this specific area, because there were rumors from native that there was sometimes visible, the top of a pyramid. The sandstorm a few weeks before had been the worst he'd ever seen. And when the wind died down and the sand cleared, Franklin went out to look for some gear that had been blown away. The professor waited in the tent. He was getting old, and his health wasn't what it used to be. He was careful to stay close enough to see the camp, while workers clearing as much dust as they could from the tents. Then he saw it. A form in the sand that seemed way too perfectly shaped to be just another mound of sand. He climbed the hill, and started sweeping away the sand, and found rock. This was it! The pyramid that was rumored to be in this area! He got on his walkie-talkie and called back to camp. "Professor, this is Franklin. I think I found it!"
The entrance was cleared, and he stepped inside. It smelled musty and ancient. Just ahead, under some spider web, he could see a sort of rectangular shape. He cleared away the webs, and picked it up. It looked kind of like a cell phone.
