Other than the 2020 crap that everyone is dealing with, it's been an up and down year for me.
In April, shortly after everything shut down, my brother called 911 because Mom was having stroke symptoms. Turned out it was a major UTI (in older women those regularly present with neuro symptoms). That required a helicopter ride to a bigger, better hospital and then 2 weeks in induced coma in ICU, then another 3 weeks awake in ICU, followed by a couple of weeks in regular hospital room. Then she got moved to a rehab facility until the end of June. Of course, all this time, no visitors allowed; once she got to the rehab facility, she could visit through the window of her room. I went out there to take care of her when she got out and was there for a bit over a week with a 3 day, 2100 mile drive on each end of that. Other brother came out the day I left, and sister followed him. The brother who lives near her (~100 feet away) moved her in with them a couple of months ago. She's doing pretty well now.
I've been WFH for 3 or 4 days a week since March, that will last at least through February. On Labor Day, while I was driving home from Portland to Seattleish on the hottest day of the year, my AC decided to vent all its refrigerant to atmosphere. Rather than drop another grand on a 25 year old car I've owned for 24 years, I decided it's time for my retirement car. So I bought my first new car for me, a 2020 Honda Clarity PHEV, which now has about 2000 miles on it. I'm happy with the decision. Both wives have gotten new cars, it's my turn.
A week or so after that, I got promoted to a management position, the pay bump about makes the car payment.
Here's looking forward to a more enjoyable 2021! |
