X takes the tube down to the block, noting that the stops nearby have all been closed. Fine, he can hoof it in. And in minutes he turns the corner to what can only be decribed as chaos and confusion. Different municpal vehicles (Fire, Police, and Emergency) are strewn around the block in strategic locations surrounding the old CitiGroup Center building complex. In the air a Lone Star chopper lazily sweeps around the perimeter, and it would appear that Lone Star is working with NY's finest to keep a lid on things in... ...the... ...area...
The building *LOOKS* as if it has been quarantined, except that there are police running up to double-door sets, disappearing inside, while other double-door sets burst open with police at a full sprint heading for cover at the nearby-parked (and strategically placed) Fire Trucks, Police Cars, or in some cases Ambulances. (Usually the police are carrying/dragging civilian-people out with them when they're heading for Ambulances.) Sometimes when the doors burst open gunfire can be heard erupting somewhere within, but it's far off enough (and direct vision is usually hindered by a "strategically" parked Fire Truck, Police Car, Police Van, or Ambulance - which is truly aggravating if you're trying to figure out what's happening from a distance. You suspect that this is done intentionally, even if it appears haphazardly executed.
Noticably absent are the gumshoes and news reporters that usually clog the entrance ways and exits near a cordon area: however a press helicopter drifts nearby, side bay door open and an impressive array of cameras leaning out to capture the situation. In minutes you note that the Lone Star chopper seems to be *trying* to intercept and interpose between the situation on the ground and the press chopper without causing further incident (like a chopper falling out of the sky might cause).
The building itself doesn't show any outward appearance of a fire or other life-threatening event; it also doesn't appear to have been invaded by miscreants or extremists; however it may be too soon to tell... |
