Hmm. That's strange. by Longfist2014-12-31 07:35:09
Let me share this with you: by Longfist 2015-01-01 22:36:53
We have five inputs:
  • Brake - digital (on/off)
  • Accelerator - digital (hall effect)
  • 3 Hall Effect Sensors (from the 3-phase BLDC motor)

We have three outputs:
  • Blue motor cable (to the 3-phase BLDC motor)
  • Green motor cable (to the 3-phase BLDC motor)
  • Yellow motor cable (to the 3-phase BLDC motor)

...in between we have an Arduino Uno and 6 MOSFETs - the MOSFETs driven by the Arduino to switch the current forward/backward across the motor's coils based on where the hall effect sensors tell the Arduino where the wheel is.  Opto-isolation is in place between the Arduino and everything else.  The Brake is directly applied to the first Interrupt pin, the 6 MOSFETs are connected to the 6 PWM pins, and everything else is in limbo until I can hammer out where they're supposed to go.

As I looked this over, I decided that overvoltage protection might be my first order of business.  Like optoisolation for the Arduino, it might be that important...

...and that's when I decided to yell for help.  Because in normal situations the voltages are already regulated when they get to my desk, and I'm afraid I've become rather rusty in that design arena.  Thank you-Thank you-Thank you for your kindly assistance, UFies!  you've given me quite a bit to stir upon and think about...

For now, regenerative braking is out. by Longfist2015-01-02 18:01:14
