The "Diabetic Device" Section. by ShadowSystems2012-06-24 14:43:26
  Okay. So - is there any status? by LongFist2012-12-12 07:59:38
    Ask Klar or Reti, I suppose... by ShadowSystems2012-12-12 09:49:17
      Based on the assumption that Reti (or Klar) by LongFist2012-12-13 08:23:33
        Thus brainstorming here. =-) by ShadowSystems 2012-12-13 10:13:27
Throw out your ideas here, and (hopefully) Reti &/Or Klar will see them.
(Especially if we poke them to read the TLP? Hahahah)

If either of them thinks your ideas have merit, then they can get with you for more details that they might not want out here in the open.
They'll use their Best Judgement to determine the level of disclosure they give to you (and vice versa), but honestly, the fact that you're a UFie and aren't lurking completely (we're having this conversation because of it, no?), then I'd figure you should be good.
(Darth Vader chortle)

Anyway, what ideas do you have?
I imagine a device about the size of a pack of Standard Playing Cards that I can strap to my arm like a Blood Pressure Cuff.
It gives a quick jab for a drop of blood, analyzes it, Reads Aloud the Current Blood Sugar, and what the current Insulin Dose would be based upon the BSL and the Doctor's supplied Insulin.
(If, for example, the Doc says "5 Units of Novalog", then I'd key in 5 Units, slip in the Novalog Insulin vial, and the machine would inject 5 units from it.)
It would then give me a "Confirm Dose" request (something like "With a Blood Sugar Of #X & a Doctor's doseage of 5 Units, that would require a Total Current Dose of #Y units of Insulin. Continue?" type thing) and I'd either hit one button to Accept, or another button to Decline.
The machine would have to be able to:
* Take a Blood Sample
* Analyze the Sample
* Determine the current Blood Sugar Level ("BSL")
* Read aloud the BSL
* Analyze the inserted Insulin vial for Insulin viability (Flecks? Flakes? Snow? Air? Empty?) and Notify if there's a problem
* Allow the User to enter the Doctor's reccommended Doseage of Insulin, and if it's a Straight Dose or a Sliding Scale (EG: if it's just "5 units of insulin each time, every time, no matter what the BSL might be" or "a Base Dose of 5 units, plus #x more units per $y points of BSL")
* Draw & Verify the proper dose of Insulin
* Inject the Insulin
* Have a Records Mode that allows me to either have the Unit Read Aloud the readings & doses over a period of time, or have a way to download the data so I can import it to my PC & let JAWS do it. (A Plain Text File of Comma or Tab Delineated Text would be perfect.)
*Have User replaceable batteries (either Standard AA's, or a Nokia-style Rechargable Cell Phone Battery)
* Have User Replaceable Lancets (for drawing the blood) and syringes (for injecting the insulin)
* Be easily Cleanable (to sterilize it if it gets dirty).
*Preferrably not be Radioactive, Toxic, or contain any Dark Matter, AntiMatter, or Collapsed Neutronium. =-)p
* Shoot LASERS at my enemies and make cool PTUI! PTUI! BZZZZRAP! noises. =-D

Anything else that comes to mind?

          An interesting idea. I just happen to be Type II by LongFist2012-12-13 13:51:00
            I hate the idea of an Insulin Pump. =-J by ShadowSystems2012-12-13 18:15:41
