The hall remains eerily quiet, save for the pinging overlords of instant death, those MG-234s replete with flamethrower attachment. But it's not always what you *hear* that makes all the difference in the world. Ace bends his head to the task at hand, obviously in deep concentration as he slumps down against the left-hand wall, inside the tactical barrier. Where ever he is, he's definitely deep in the moment SOMEwhere, just not right here.
A raspy voice breaks the silence, and says in a husky stage-whisper, almost horrific in the fact that it comes from nowhere in particular, and says "Can you see me now?"
Ace totally ignores Block's requests over comms. And from all outward appearances nothing happens at this time, nothing changes obviously at this moment.
Over the comms channel Block reports, "Okay. Be advised - environmental effects in this building mean I can" (emphasize "can") "see what I have completely missed, before."
But, gentle readers, nothing could be further from the truth... |
