Ace keeps his senses & sensors scanning like mad, trying to find the trap before it springs.
He "knows" there's got to be a trap, there's ALWAYS a trap for the hero that steps out of the elevator, so why not now?
That cranks his paranoia up a notch, his wariness increasing in response to the seeming LACK of Something Bad to focus upon.
Maybe the auto turrets are set to shoot anyone coming out of the elevator?
Nah, that doesn't make sense - they would be on the other side of the sand bag wall if that were the case, plus they would have wasted our butts by now.
Maybe those aren't sand bags at all, maybe they're full of explosives & this place is rigged to go ka boom?
That doesn't sound THAT far fetched if whomever or WHATever is down here that caused the situation in the first place is still down here & the folks up top just want to blow the bugger into steamy chunky salsa.
If THAT'S the case though, why haven't they triggered the boomies yet?
Maybe those really ARE sand bags & I'm just being TOO paranoid.
No way. There's no such thing as too paranoid.
How's that old quip go?
"If you're not paranoid then you're not paying attention."
In that light Ace will scan even harder for stuff that might be the trap.
Does the floor contain any pressure plates that would get triggered if I step on them?
How about a motion sensor aimed in my direction that might be augmenting those guns to aim at me?
What about the ceiling - are there any security mirrors or camera pods that might be watching even now?
I wonder if I should shoot them out as both a way to blind whomever might be tracking us, and as a way to make it easier for us to sneak up on them.
Nah, I'll save that for later - there's too much else to pay attention to right now.
Ace will slide up to the right side sand bag wall, knealing down to use it as cover.
A quick prarie dog peek & back down, then review the sensor feeds for sign of anything that needs more attention.
Mentally palming my face, I'll pull my decoy ComLink out of the holster atop my shoulder.
I'll hold it up over the wall & use it like a parascope, scanning the scene & relaying the feed to the group channel.
If the ComLink can sense it, it'll be data my partners might be able to use.
If it finds nothing then that too might prove useful.
I'll slip the decoy back in it's holster clipped to my shoulder, then look back at Block opposite to me on the other sand bag wall.
A quick message over the group link again: "Ready."
I just hope I am as ready as I think I am, otherwise I'm about to earn a rather pithy epitath...
