| Ace's actions. |
by ShadowSystems |

When the three black fireballs flit from left to right across Reggie's group & deprive the Gunner of weapon & arm, Ace makes an involuntary gulp as he winces back.
It's a classic "F4 Me!" reaction as the person experiencing it suddenly realizes they aren't merely in over their head, they're strapped to a rocket booster aimed into the depths of the Marianas Trench.
Then the man on Reggie's left gets wrapped in another of those black auras, throws head back trying to scream, & vanishes as if sucked into a blackhole before his scream can escape his lips.
Ace's eyes go wiiiide at that one, the lump in his throat preventing his own strangled squeak from ruining his machismo, his bowels slamming shut in fear.
As Reggie's high powered weapon's bullets deflect impotently off Ms Garcia's force field like gnats before a hurricane, Ace grips his own meager weapon tighter wondering JUST WTF he's gotten himself into.
When she starts making arm wavy gestures over her head, Ace hunkers down like a terrified turtle & starts to take a step back.
It doesn't matter WHAT she's doing nor why, he's just sure at this point it would be a Very Bad Idea(TM) for him to be this close to Ground Zero.
Thus when the whole thing vanishes & takes Reggie, Ms Garcia, & all the other wierdness with it, a nervous cackle claws it's way out of Ace's throat as he falls back on his butt in the grass.
The sounds of NYC returning fills his senses with their normalacy, the whomping of the heli overhead helping his own heartbeat to slow to something less lethal, & the sight of the park coming back into focus before him helps Ace get
himself back in control.
He scrambles to his feet & scans everything to try & detect if he's merely halucinating the current apparent situation, as if trying to pierce a veil he seriously hopes isn't there.
Eyes to the sky to stare at the chopper until it's familiar lines register as Normal, the twinkling stars through the clouds seem Normal, the trees gently swaying in the faint breeze seem Normal, the playground equipment's metal bits shining dimly in the occasional flashes of city lights,
the unnatural darkness replaced with Normal sights, the bon fire gone completely, & the honking of distant horns as Normal as it gets.
After turning in place on a heel, gun at the ready, senses so twitchy it's a wonder he doesn't hear fleas farting at half a Klick, he finally starts to relax.
Then X's transmission hits him like a smack in the head, causes him to blink, & come to like a drowning man finally catching a life preserver.
"Guys, we need to go. See what you can do about exiting the park. I'll try to do some recon to see if I can find you a hole in the perimeter to get out by."
Ace takes a long, slow, deep breath & nods as if to acknowledge it's a good idea, then radios in a report over the encrypted Group to All link, using it to both "get his cards in order" & to make sure everyone else is on the same
proverbial page.
"Primary. Three. Targets have vanished. Repeat, Targets no longer in the area. Presumed destroyed by magic. Normal visual seems to have returned. Can see stars & a NYPD gunship flying by. We're RTB just as fast as we can. Out."
At Block's transmission inquiring about the status of our health, Ace quickly does a Macarena to check himself for punctures, breaks, bullet holes, or anything bloody.
Heaving a huge sigh of relief at having found none, Ace's face breaks out into a wide, gleefull grin.
Back over the same link he replies: "Two. Three. I'm either healthy or dead. If I'm healthy then I'm happy. If I'm dead I'm delusional. Either way I'm Good!"
Realizing he's standing within earshot of his friend, Ace laughs & steps closer to clap Block on the shoulder.
So when Block sends in his own status report to Tiny, Ace snorts & whispers back sotto vocce: "Red King? What are you, going for most elloquent runner of the year award?"
He gives Block's shoulder a squeaze to show he's just kidding, & then follows Block's lead as the other man turns to Leeson.
Ace adds in his own attempts to help Leeson come to grips with the evident loss of Miss Garcia, hoping his ineptitude over such "touchy feely emotional s4" still manages to do some good.
He'll slip his weapon back where it belongs & drape an arm over Leeson's shoulder opposite Block, so the two can keep Leeson upright.
A soft suggestion to Leeson that "Let's get you home Chummer" gets added to Block's attempts to get their new friend moving.
Ace scans the edge of the park where they came in, hoping to find an exit that doesn't involve dragging Leeson over a wall.
If they can leave the area like a trio of friends just out for a walk after too many beers, maybe the cops won't give them too much grief.
((Perception: 1, 3, 3, 1, 5, 4, 3, 1, 4.))
He'll point out the route he thinks is the best way to leave, & hopes that they don't end up having to carry Leeson home.
Unless Leeson's building's doors are unlocked (fat chance), the thought of getting Leeson up a ladder doesn't seem very likely.
Then a thought strikes Ace like a slap to the forehead & he FacePalms with his free hand to laugh at himself.
"Hey Block? Have you got enough mojo left to FLY the three of us back to his roof? I'll buy the first plate of wings if ya' do!"
