| Ace's actions... |
by ShadowSystems |

As his contact lenses' flare compensation do their digital VooDoo & render the scene visible, Ace tries to soak in as much of what he sees as possible.
From the trees & their annoying habit of casting shadows & hiding what's beneath their canopies, to the three obvious figures walking up the lane, to the murky depths beyond the barrel fire up ahead.
A FlameThrower could take care of the trees & flush out anyone hiding within, a couple of grenades could flatten the figures, and another half dozen flares sent beyond the fire would probably obliterate even the very IDEA of darkness.
But since he doesn't have a FlameThrower, grenades, nor a clue if their friend has any more flares to spare, he figures he'll just have to rely on what he DOES have at his disposal.
Over the encrypted "Group to All" he sends a message & trideo clip of what he's just seen: "Primary. Three. Target spotted. Proceeding with extreme caution. If you can't see the three figures it's because they're stealthy as hell. Out."
When Block radios his intention to land, Ace quickly scans the ground for someplace where their landing won't get them turned into the targeting equivalent of a neon bullseye.
Hoping he's not about to doom them to a quick & lead-filled death, Ace points to where he thinks such a landing zone exists.
As Block starts to glide down at the spot he'd already chosen, Ace realizes it's the same one he's just pointed to, so he turns the pointy gesture to a thumb's up one instead.
Adding back over the link a cheery "Great minds think alike!" before coughing & remembering his Radio Silence, he spends the rest of the descent smiling like a monkey with a big fat banana.
As Block lowers them to the deck & Terra Firma reasserts itself beneath their feet, Ace squats down as low as he can go without immitating an Earthworm, the better to present the smallest potential target possible.
He draws his Predator with his right hand, smiling tightly as the SmartLink HUD appears in his vision, adding itself to his already keyed up senses as hopefully one more way to stay alive.
In an odd looking but strangely effective maneuver, Ace slowly twists in place on his heels, letting his senses & sensors & SmartLink scan their surroundings to try & locate anything even remotely in need of shooting.
Left hand holding up his Decoy ComLink to allow it's sensors to scan forward, gun in the right hand doing the same thing through it's own sensors, and eyes flicking everywhere like hummingbirds on NovaKick, he tries to protect himself & Block while his buddy catches his breath.
He's especially interested in finding Reggie's little band of merry muppets, the better to punch their tickets & go home early, but ghouls, Miss Garcia, and anything that looks like it needs some lead-based diplomacy to convince it to go away.
((Perception: 4, 6, 5, 2, 3, 1, 6, 5, 4.
Real ComLink: 3, 1, 4.
Decoy ComLink: 3.))
Every time his slow rotation scans past the barrel fire & takes in the murky bit beyond, it makes the hair on his neck prickle in warning.
He may not know what it is or what's causing it, but words like "Wrong" and "Unnatural" keep dancing through his mind.
Like a clock spring running out of gumption, Ace eventually stops turning & just faces the Wrongness, sure as he can be that any real danger in the area is held within it's inky depths.
Quietly so as to not be heard past Block's ears, Ace asks hesitantly: "Dude, is it just me or is the Fit about to hit the Shan?"
