I realize there is a lot of travelling going on in Europe during the last quarter of this year. UFies roaming the land: Zurich, Stuttgart, London - and now Berlin! If you still got time left, what about a powow in Germany's capital at the end of November?
Yes, Berlin (English/Deutsch). The city once separated and reunited, Athens of the Spree and home to the most polite people of the world (*cough* okay, let's just call it a special kind of charm then...). Due to personal reasons I cannot provide accomodation myself, but please let me know if can assist in finding some.
Time slot would be in November 22nd- 26th. If this is too tight, we can also look for another date in December or next year (summer/spring when it's warmer and greener and sunnier :) or also split it into two meets. Please tell me your ideas and what you would like to do here; Berlin offers endless opportunities to spend time. Some suggestions:
A visit to the TV tower in the heart of Berlin is obligatory (if sight is good and you are free of nausea...) and a baot trip on the Spree (if weather isn't too humid/cold) gets you in touch with the history of Berlin's quarters, buildings, bridges and more. I think Christmas markets may not open yet before Nov 28th (1st sunday in advent, don't know); there are traditional as well as entertainment-oriented ones in the different quarters. December 27th-29th a conference of the CCC (Chaos Computer Club, German/European hacker group) takes place here (English/Deutsch) Of course we'll have to be selective, too much stuff will only end in utter confusion and unhappiness and sore feet - I experienced this once in Russia when visiting the Heremitage museum in Saint Petersburg (helluva wonderful city!). We took our time and spent a whole day, but still felt crushed afterwards - culture shock. (Of course we can also just relax in some city corner with a nice drink and crack jokes on people passing by ;)
