(* Continued from previous Post *)

Leeson's voice crackles back on the comms.  "I don't think this is our fight," he says calmly, "The circle doesn't even appear to have noticed us - they *have* to be ignoring us - but this is bigger than I had imagined it might be..." he drops off.  Apparently he's recovering himself, at least some rationality it would seem.  "Jillian is there, and she's apparently leading this effort.  The other guys appear to be shamanistic in nature - but a couple of them appear to be of the Order of the Bard." he drops off again - it sounds like he's searching for the right words.  "What I'm saying is these guys don't usually work together, so finding them all working together like this is something spectacular!"  Looks like he found the right words.

Blocks voice graces the comms channel: "Leeson," he says, "I'm sorry man, but there are too many for us to take on, and they've had time to prepare defenses.  Unless you have some trick up your sleeve that I am unaware of, she's already gone.  I think you should be worrying about the peeps that are left back at your home."  The channel pops back to thoughtful silence.

Looking to your left, you see a shadow approach, which continually gathers color, shape, and sort of forms into Leeson.  Standing there with you, he gestures broadly toward the mega-casting already in progress and shrugs.

"One.  Three."  Ace transmits, "I've heard and understood your idea, but remind you that I've got no armor, nearly no stealth, and only a pistol with which to lend to it's completion.  Will follow your lead.  Out."  Appreciatively, you have to give the guy points - he's got chutzpah to be out here, chasing Reggie and The Boys with the rest of you, especially as unprepared for World War 4 as he seems to be.  On second thought, maybe he needs some reinforcement in the area of self-preservation.  He *IS* out here with you guys, right?

"Prime, Two." Block's voice returns, "Three has a point.  A good point.  Tell your Angels that they might want to get in on that side bet, too.  We can stick a few more minutes so you can get that rolling, and then we pop back over the wall in front of those cameras so they can collect.  I don't have a thousand, tho, so put me down for three hundred, please."  After a couple of seconds he adds, "Just tell us when that's done, so we can evac.  This is getting scary in here."

"Team," Tiny's voice - sounding almost out of range - returns, "All bets are sealed, just so you know.  And the powers that be wouldn't have allowed you to bet, anyway - you don't have a membership yet!"  Ghostly laughter half-buried in static.  "You guys need to get some hard data, pull out before you get scotched in a battle that's not..." Tiny's voice fades out into static, returns, "is out of zone, time is running out, and his handlers are getting *really* twitchy out there.  Come to think of it, they're in a really sour mood in here, too."  The voice signal firms up.  "You guys get the info on Jillian, and pull back if you can.  You have no backuop handy if you should start a ruckus with the locals.  That's the limits of the game board's advice."  You think he might be whispering - which might explain his frequency strength troubles.  "No traces of meddling, please, this thing is already unravelling all by itself - you just happen to be close enough to watch..." the frequency goes quiet.

Inside the ritual area, where Reggie and his goons are now intruding, weapons drawn, you see Jillian step foward, her arms describing small circles and arcs as she does so.  Fire bursts forth from Reggie's awesome assault rifle as the loud report makes it out of the circle to you, and you see sparks stream away from Jillian's shield - it sparks where the bullets strike, each leaving a small green patch of afterglow fading in their wake, each deflection making a "tink" sound.  The goon on the left raises his hand revealing a katana with a dark purple glowing blade, a flawless iai (fast) draw, but just as quickly you see a blobby wave of reddish energy sweep forward from the fire immolating the sword up to the hilt, somehow suggestive of it being eaten.  The blade's vanishing act makes a"swish" like wind over water, then there's more silence.  The goon stands there, stunned, staring at the smoking hilt fuming in his hand.

Your eyes are attracted to Jillian - easily as beautiful as Leeson's image showed.  Her features appear different, rugged, and those familiar with the effects that HMHVV III can see where it has taken hold on her.  If this is what she looks like now, she must have been absolutely stunning before!  It's easy to see how Leeson might have fallen in love - she's spectacular to look at even at this stage in her infection: she's definitely becoming a ghoul, if an awesome looking one.  And apparently she's leading this confluence of spell-weavers...
