[Illiad] FROM THE BATCH FILEDate:Tue Oct 3 17:22:53 2000
This week's update, brought to you by the number 42.

IRC: I get asked this in e-mail fairly often: where oh where do all them UFies hang out on IRC? The Community Links page has this info, but it bears repeating here. We're all on Undernet and y'all will need an IRC client like mIRC or BitchX to connect. We're on channel #userfriendly in case that wasn't obvious. ObTrivia: The channel was started over two years ago by Arcterex, TiggerSol and Iambe if I recall correctly. Also, channel regular Bean did a fine job putting together the channel mugshots page!

Introducing: I'd like to extend a warm welcome to Joe "Zonker" Brockmeier who will be joining UF as our senior editor. Zonker is a familiar face to many members of the Linux community, as the author of Install, Configure and Customize Slackware Linux and as a contributing editor for Linux Magazine. He's done his time as a radio news director and does a pile of other journalistic type things, like being a war correspondant during flare-ups of distro wars. More to the point, he's a good guy with a good brain, and I count myself lucky to have him around. You'll have a chance to meet him in Atlanta with me at a joint book signing on Friday, October 13. Don't be shy!

Creature Feature: Or maybe it should be the other way around. Yes, we're still in the midst of developing new features and toys for the site, and as we get closer to completion I'll arrange for some previews, especially because you're the folks we'll be looking to for beta-testing and feedback. More news on this in the next couple weeks!
