| [Kethryvis] THE HOURS ARE COUNTING DOWN... | Date:Sat Aug 12 22:24:17 2000 |
| As da darling Diva said, LWE is getting closer and closer... it promises to be a week of fun and cool free crap. I mentioned a UFie meet a while back.. I haven't forgotten! I swear! After getting a *great* response and trying to think of what's around San Jose for us to invade.. I've figured the best plan is this: Meet at the UF booth Wednesday around 5:45pm (the expo ends at 6pm) and we will depart for somewhere-really-fun-and-cool at 6pm when they kick us all outta the exhibit hall. See you all there!!

| [Illiad] COLOUR ON SUNDAYS | Date:Fri Aug 11 11:58:26 2000 |
...is the usual rule. This time around we put together four full-colour cartoons [1] [2] [3] [4] for SGI's global services. Some of you have e-mailed me and asked to see the entire series after viewing one of them via a banner ad, so there they are. Not only were they fun to do, we got a tour of SGI's campus and I just about had a coronary when I saw what was in the new Octanes. Erwin needs a new home, I think. ;)

| [Illiad] GEEKCODE: IT'S OFFICIAL | Date:Wed Aug 9 19:27:05 2000 |
This in from none other than the father of the Geekcode himself, Robert Hayden:
User Friendly WILL be a category in the new version. That's from me...the Geekcode author! w00t! Thanks Robert! Update 19:38 PST: The above means y'all can stop e-mailing Robert now. He says that everyone has been exceedingly polite, and you're some of the nicest people on the 'net, but the "deluge must end." ;) Thanks everyone!

| [WebDiva D] GEEKCODE NEEDS A UF CATEGORY | Date:Wed Aug 9 10:32:42 2000 |
| UFie Ralph Nelson sent this to us, and claims that he has submitted it to Geekcode to no avail as yet. I thought it was worthwhile sharing with UFies: UF+++++ I am Illiad. UF++++ I have accumulated more than 500 geekpoints. UF+++ I am a Dust Puppy prototype. UF++ I have two or more User Friendly cartoons posted near my office/cube/whatever. UF+ I have been a victim of the User Friendly Productivity Virus. UF I read User Friendly daily, often understanding it UF- Why are they always picking on Stef? He's my idol. UF-- Don't read it, but the fuzzy thing with feet is cute. UF--- What's their tech support guy's problem? Why can't he answer honest questions without getting an attitude? UF---- I am Crud Puppy.

| [Illiad] ANIMATION ELATION | Date:Tue Aug 8 18:31:26 2000 |
| Now that we're close enough to completion I can actually talk about this. I'm pleased to announce that we'll be showing the very first UserFriendly.org animation at LWE in San Jose on Thursday the 17th. After the premiere, we'll be placing the animation up for viewing on the site with links to any mirror sites we arrange. The animation is about four or five minutes long, done in Flash, and is our first foray into the world of broadcast media. ;-) If you're going to be at LWE on the 17th, please drop by the UserFriendly booth at 2:30pm and join us for the very first public viewing of the animation! Meantime, check out the invitation and pass it on to fellow UFies! [Wildcard] LOCATION UPDATE - Wed Aug 9 09:11:21 PDT 2000 We've moved the animation to our booth due to some unforseen technical difficulties. I hope this hasn't miffed anyone's schedule, but the booth's aren't all that far apart :)

(Thanks to all the UFies who submitted their interview questions.) Over the next few months we will expanding each character gallery in the same manner, and adding new art as it is created. Hope you enjoy it! If you have any suggestions or character specific pieces of art you would like to submit to the gallery, email them to gallery@userfriendly.org

| [Yohimbe] YOU HAVE TO LAUGH: THE MOST AUDACIOUS SPAM I HAVE EVER READ | Date:Mon Aug 7 16:04:36 2000 |
| News Flash: Spammer goes one step beyond: Pay $1.99 to complain about SPAM! I have just recieved what must be the funniest spam I have ever seen. I'm sure many have you have recieved it: The title: Vote In The "I Love/ I Hate SpamMail" Opinion Poll Now !. To incite people to call, the content of the email consists of the most inflammatory pro spam junk I've ever read. They suggest that the reasons FOR allowing spam mail are many and that arrayed against "free enterprise" is an unholy alliance between vix.com and the "Big ISP's" that the writer of the spam refers to (*giggle* I'm not making this up) as Robber Barons. For those of you who don't know, vix.com is associated with the realtime black list, one of the two major anti-spam organizations. The kicker for this is the ingenuity to set up a 1-900 service to make money from people who want to complain/vote against spam. My hat goes off to this enterprising organization, who in the tradition of spam email is not identified.

| [Yohimbe] RECENT STRIP OUTAGES | Date:Mon Aug 7 13:11:33 2000 |
| Due to some persistent issues here, we've had some downtime of the strips with permissions issues. These have been resolved. We apologize for the delays and the inconvenience. As you can well imagine, I am addressing these issues with some urgency... as in, All nighter time....

| [WebDiva D] WE ARE WORKIN' ON IT! | Date:Mon Aug 7 12:52:12 2000 |
Dear UFies, just when we (Yohimbe and I) thought we *might* enjoy the Canadian long weekend Monday off...instant karma! We were startled awake at 3 a.m. by the alarm security crew, meaning we had to drive into the office and do the tour around to ensure everything was safe and sound. It was. Then at noon we decided to pop into the office and do a bit of work today after all and, doublewhammo! Servers were haywire. We have a daily strip and the site graphics loading nicely again, but the ARS is still suffering from some sort of time/space lag. Be patient with us while Yohimbe delves deep into the bowels of the network to...oh, never mind, you get the idea.
