I hate 60Hz thread. by myke 2002-03-26 22:40:34
Cripes I hate 60Hz, it's such an unrelaxting, obtrusive, noise! At the frequency, you not only hear it, but feel it too!

I have dreams (for when I move out) of having a giant transformer, recitfier, 8 million nice smoothing caps, and run my whole phkn house off DC.

c'mon - *WHAT* do we *NEED* AC for besides transmission...?
  • TV? nah - don't watch it...
  • Monitors... use LCDs? hrm... they aren't up to snuff yet... ah! Plasma displays :)
  • flourescent lites? bah - use halogen
  • motors? ugh... use peltiers for your fridge, and change your furnace to a DC motor.
  • Certain humidifiers... well... uh... boil water :)
  • Microwaves? hmm, never felt safe taking one apart... do they use high voltages?

Plus (HA! You don't have that in AC!), DC is safer and far more useful in the home.
apparently, in someplaces in Quebec they use DC for xmission... but I think this was the weak link in the solar strom 15 years ago that knocked out most of Quebec's power

So c'mon Ontario Hydro! Start offering me some nice flat DC. Heck - even Solar Panels pump DC...

Can you tell I'm an audiophile?

That and I've been playing with a bit too much exposed wiring lately...
