Hi, one and all! Yes, I do work for the US postal service. Fortunately for all, when I feel the need to play with sharp objects because of the people at work, I come home and cook (and use sharp knives on cuts of meat and veggies!)
As far as my geekiness goes, I went back to school several years ago, and have my certificates in programming and database admin. as far as languages go, I've taken Pascal, C/C++, Visual Basic (available, not big M$ fan), Java. Databases: Access, and Oracle, and am playing around with MySQL.
my various boxen: Win XP, Fedora, and Red Hat 8. Yes, I do have three computers, and sometimes they're all cranking away at the same time.
Phoon's comment on the morning of 2007-03-27 really struck a chord with me. At least s/he comes across on text as being competent and witty. I'm more like a bull in a china shop, even after careful editing.
(5 June 2007) I stand corrected. Phoon's postings lately have been profanity-laced, and I even called the mods to delete his SOTM by afroman (from just before rollover).(back to previous post)
Phoon was talking about how on the web, appearances don't matter. Several years ago, I was between 265-270 pounds. I'm now down to ~215. I was down to 205 earlier, but I'm too fond of the wine. I'd like to get down to ~180, which is about idea for my height.
raznfrazn work! I've just spent the last shift being scared (no, make that terrified out of my mind). It was to the point where I was barely functional, much less housebroken. Management keeps trying to tell us that they're committed to making the system a safe place to work. HA! I've been working in close proximity to one individual. I try not to get anywhere near his space. I don't want him to hear me hum, breathe, or even think. If the right geek job comes along, I'm saying "screw the postal retirement that I've earned". I'm getting my posterior out of there </rant>. I've just ordered sed & awk, and STL for C++ Programmers from Amazon. On my nights off for the next several months, after I get those books, I'm going to chain(chain?, h4! marry) myself to my Linux boxes, and get to know those books backwards and forwards.
The promise of a decent retirement just isn't worth the feeling that I'm going to be carried out of the building, toes up, before I'll be able to collect. |
