| How to use basic ARS allowed HTML:
Permitted HTML: <strike>, <a href="">, <u>, , <code>, <br />, <strong>, <em>, <b>, <li>, <pre>, <ol>, <i>, <ul>, <blockquote>, <p align=""> and .
All these tags (except <br />) occur in pairs, with the closing tag using a forward slash (/) in front of the identifier. Use the closing tags! ARS has a funny habit of adding all omitted closing tags at the end of the post, and this can cause very odd results with the more complicated markup.
-------------------
Links: <a href="URL">Link Text</a>
EX: <a href="http://www.google.com">Google Link</a> will give you: Google Link.
An anchor with hyperlink reference - this is the clicky tag. This tag turns the enclosed text into a link to another web location. The quotation marks and the http:// are very important, without the link won't work.
-------------------
Underlines: <u>Underline</u>
EX: Underline
This tag underlines a piece of text.
-------------------
Strikethrough: <strike>Strike</strike>
EX: Strike
This tag tells the browser to put a line through your text as though you struck it out. It is most often used stupidly sarcastically.
-------------------
Strong: <strong>Strong</strong>
EX: Strong
Much like the <em> tag.
The use of <strong> is recomended over using <b>.
-------------------
Bold: <b>Bold</b>
EX: Bold
<b> is deprecated, it is recomended that <strong> be used instead.
-------------------
Emphasis: <em>Emphasis</em>
EX: Emphasis
This tag marks a piece of text as needing to be emphasized somehow - just how is left up to the browser, but is usually italisized.
The use of <em> is recomended over using <i>.
-------------------
Italics: <i>Italics</i>
EX: Italics
This tag italicizes a piece of text.
<i> is deprecated, it is recomended that <em> be used instead.
-------------------
Subscript: Subscript
EX: This is Subscript.
This tag makes a piece of text set a few points below the regular line (and most UAs make it a smaller font).
Geek Example: H2O gives you H2O
Multiple tags can be used to make really small font in ARS.
EX: (Only works in Gecko Browsers like Firefox.)
AAAA</sub&g
t;
AAAA
-------------------
Superscript: Superscript
EX: This is Superscript.
This tag makes a piece of text set a few points above the regular line (and most UAs make it a smaller font).
Geek Example: E=mc2 gives you E=mc2
-------------------
Unordered Lists:
<ul>
<li>Bullet 1</li>
<li>Bullet 2</li>
</ul>
EX:
This tag will turn the list items <li> into bulleted list items.
The <ul> and </ul> are required to make the list show up correctly in anything but IE.
-------------------
Ordered Lists:
<ol>
<li>Bullet 1</li>
<li>Bullet 2</li>
</ol>
EX:
- Bullet 1
- Bullet 2
This tag will denote a piece of text to be indented and numbered/bulleted as determined by the enclosing tags.
-------------------
Blockquotation: Used to quote a paragraph or paragraphs usually.
EX:
<blockquote>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Nam varius accumsan augue. Fusce felis mauris, placerat a, bibendum ut, tincidunt vitae, quam. Morbi gravida dignissim odio. Phasellus lobortis, enim at condimentum consequat, eros nunc bibendum sapien, a aliquet lacus enim sit amet neque. Aliquam in eros.
Nam varius accumsan augue. Fusce felis mauris, placerat a, bibendum ut, tincidunt vitae, quam. Morbi gravida dignissim odio. Phasellus lobortis, enim at condimentum consequat, eros nunc bibendum sapien, a aliquet lacus enim sit amet neque. Aliquam in eros.
This tag indents both sides of a piece of text.
-------------------
Break: <br>
EX: Line one<br>Line two
gives you:
Line one Line two
If you look at the source you'll see that I wrote that on one line.
This tag causes a hard return to occur.
Breaks are required by ARS if you use any HTML.
While <br> is valid it has been deprecated and the use of <br /> is reccomended.
-------------------
Preformatted: <pre>
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.
This is responsible for more moderations than you can count. It tells the UA to display this text with all the hard returns, tabs, and white space that is included (normally, those are ripped out by the UA). Watch the width or you WILL be moderated! A good rule of thumb is no wider than the comic.
-------------------
Code: <code>
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.
This tag makes a piece of text use the system font.
-------------------
Paragraph: <p>
This tag denotes a paragraph. It accepts an optional modifier: the align attribute. Acceptable values are "left", "right", & "center". They will justify the paragraph accordingly. Left align is the default and used when there is no align attribute in the tag.
EX: <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.</p>
<p align="center">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.</p>
<p align="right">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.</p>
